The four steps

Answer a few questions
60 seconds in the app. Your job, roughly what you earn, whether you have claimed before, and how to reach you. No documents, no receipts, no payslips.

Connect HMRC and prove it's you
Link your Government Gateway so we can see your employment and tax history for the last 4 years. Then a 5-minute identity check: a photo of your ID and a selfie. We never see or store your Gateway password.

Approve your estimate
Your named specialist works out what you are owed: mileage, uniform, tools, fees, working from home, Marriage Allowance. You see the figure and the fee side by side. Nothing goes to HMRC until you tap approve.

HMRC pays, we pay you
We file under Self Assessment as your agent. HMRC processes it in 1 to 3 weeks and pays the refund to us. The fee comes off and the rest lands in your verified bank account, usually the next working day.

No Gateway account?
The app walks you through setting one up with HMRC. About 10 minutes, with your National Insurance number and a recent payslip or P60.
What you need, and what you don't
Have to hand
- Your National Insurance number.
- Photo ID: passport, driving licence or biometric residence permit.
- Your Government Gateway login, or 10 minutes to create one.
- A UK bank account in your name.
Not needed
- Receipts. Mileage, uniform and most fees use HMRC flat rates or your employer's records.
- P60s or payslips. Linking HMRC gives us your employment history.
- A fixed address history. We work from HMRC's record.
Questions, answered
Why does it go through Self Assessment?
It is the route that lets us claim all 4 years and every expense type in one go, and act as your agent so you never deal with HMRC yourself. Once your claim is paid we ask HMRC to take you back out of Self Assessment.
Will I have to file a tax return every year?
No. We request removal from Self Assessment once the refund is paid unless you are CIS or self-employed, where a return is needed anyway.
Can I stop part way through?
Yes, at any time before you approve your estimate, with nothing to pay.
What if HMRC asks questions?
We answer them. If you gave us full and accurate information we cover the cost of dealing with any review.
