See exactly what you'd keep
Move the slider to a refund amount. The figures update as you go.
How the fee works
- You see the estimate and approve it before anything is sent to HMRC.
- HMRC pays the refund to us as your agent. We deduct the fee and pay the rest to your verified bank account, usually the next working day.
- If HMRC reviews a claim and you gave us full and accurate information, we cover the cost of dealing with it.
- We never take on a claim where the fee would be more than the refund.
A worked example
PAYE, the average refund
£1,635 to youHMRC refunds £2,972. Fee £1,114.50 plus VAT, £1,337.40 in total. Paid the working day after HMRC releases it.Do it yourself, or use us
You can claim directly from HMRC for free. Here is the honest comparison.
| Yourself, via gov.uk | Taxpro | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | 37.5% plus VAT of the refund, nothing if there is no refund |
| Your time | An evening or two per tax year, plus HMRC phone queues if anything is queried | 60 seconds to check, then approve one figure |
| What gets claimed | What you know to claim | Every relief in your record across 4 years, checked by a named specialist |
| HMRC letters and queries | You handle them | We handle them, and cover the cost of a review where your information was accurate |
| Paid to | Your bank, in HMRC's timeframe | Your verified bank, usually the working day after HMRC pays |
If you have the time and know what you are entitled to, do it yourself. If you don't, we are paid only when we get you money you would not otherwise have had.
What you are never charged for
- Checking whether you are owed anything. The 60-second check is free.
- Your specialist's time working out the estimate, even if you decide not to go ahead.
- Dealing with HMRC letters, chasing HMRC, or an HMRC review where your information was accurate.
- Repeat claims in later years carry the same 37.5% plus VAT, no sign-up fee.
When a fee can still apply
If you give us information that turns out to be wrong and HMRC claws back a refund, the fee on that refund is not returned. If you cancel after approving your estimate and HMRC has already been paid, the fee still applies. Both are set out in the terms.
Fee questions
Why 37.5%?
It covers a named specialist checking four years of your HMRC record, filing under Self Assessment, handling every HMRC letter, and carrying the cost when HMRC pays nothing. There is no cheaper tier because there is no cheaper version of the work.
Is VAT charged on top?
Yes. 37.5% plus VAT at 20%, so 45% of the refund in total. The slider above already includes VAT.
Can I do it myself for free?
Yes, through HMRC directly. Most people who come to us tried that, or did not know they could claim. We are paid only if we get you money you would not otherwise have had.
When is the fee taken?
Only when HMRC pays the refund. It comes off before the money reaches your bank, so you never pay anything out of pocket.
What if HMRC pays less than the estimate?
The fee is 37.5% plus VAT of what HMRC actually pays, never of the estimate.
