In short
- First claim through us: 5 to 8 weeks from sign-up to money in your bank.
- Repeat claims usually from 2 weeks.
- HMRC's own processing is the long part; we cannot speed it up, only avoid the things that stall it.
- You can track every stage in the app.
The stages and how long each takes
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Sign-up, HMRC link and identity check | Same day |
| Your specialist builds the estimate | 2 to 5 working days, up to 10 while HMRC confirms us as your agent |
| You approve, we file | Same day |
| HMRC processes the claim | 1 to 3 weeks |
| HMRC pays us, we pay you | Usually the next working day |
What slows a claim down
- HMRC security checks on first-time claims or larger refunds.
- Missing employment records where an employer reported late.
- Peak periods: January and the weeks after 5 April.
- A postal cheque instead of a bank transfer.
What we do to keep it moving
We file digitally as your agent, chase HMRC when a claim passes its expected date, and handle any HMRC letter that arrives. You see each stage dated in the tracker and get a notification when it moves.
Claiming yourself
A P87 you file online yourself goes into the same HMRC queue. Paper forms take longer. The time saved with us is in preparing the claim correctly first time, not in HMRC's queue.
Questions
It has been 8 weeks and nothing.
Message your specialist in the app. We chase HMRC directly on any claim past its expected date.
Does HMRC pay interest?
Repayment interest applies in some cases at a low rate. It is not something to wait for.
This guide is general information, not advice about your circumstances. Figures use HMRC rates for the 2026 to 2027 tax year. We are a paid tax agent and not HMRC.
